It looks like all-systems-go for the new cafe extension to the visitor centre at RSPB Frampton Marsh.

The planning application was submitted to Boston Borough Council last July but not approved until November after the Environment Agency raised flood risk concerns. However, this glitch has now been overcome.

Curiously, despite the reserve being run by the RSPB, the application still had to undergo an independent ecology assessment which was carried out by a firm from Clitheroe in Lancashire.

Although relatively modest in size, the cafe will have superb views across the reserve as well as a more diverse range of refreshments.

The target date for completion is not known - nor whether a celebrity twitcher will be invited to cut the ribbon at the formal opening.

During the works, the picnic area and the section of the reedbed trail which runs through it will be closed.
