Thank you, Jon. It appears I was given a bit of misinformation there. Appreciate your correction. Cracking bird, maybe my day.

Hi Peter,

I believe the Red-necked Grebe is the first at Winter's Pond since 1979.

Regards

Jon

Hello Peter,

Out of curiosity, the very knowledgeable birder who you met on his patch does he post on the forum?

Saturday morning 14:12:24

Driving down the lane towards the pond the sky was thick with scattering ducks. Most dispersed elsewhere including across the river.

Star bird -
Red Neck Grebe, which I gather could be a first for the location.

Goldeneye 1
Marsh Harrier
Lt Grebe 12
Shoveller 34
Mute Swan 2
Cormorant

I was then joined by another very knowledgable birder whose local patch this is. Really interesting conversation.
Not counted, but considerable numbers of
Wigeon
Tuftys
Mallard
a few Gadwall
and numerous Canada and Greylags
Russian White Fronted not showing

Bitterly cold wind
