The problem is that there are now so many other ways both to get and put information out that I think the LBC as just about run its course. I do though fully appreciate the unseen work that goes into it especially the production of such a first class bird report.

I agree with you Alan in part.  There are a minority of members of the LBC whose main focus is not listing and do not go to see rare or unusual birds.  My main interest is Ringing and the scientific aspect of taking biometrics of birds caught and population dynamics.  My findings are forwarded to the BTO on their ringing data base and this is consulted when producing County Annual Totals.  I enjoy seeing other people's observations on the Forum but I realise that probably less than 10% of the membership contribute to discussions.  Like you I am a pensioner but will be renewing my Membership as I consider the Forum plays a very small part in the LBC role.  I am prepared to put a few logs less on the fire this winter!

I have always put my sighting both countrywide including Lincolnshire on Birdtrack as these go straight to the County Recorder. I then duplicated my Lincolnshire sightings onto the forum.
I no longer intend to put Lincolnshire sightings on here as I always thought information sharing was a two way thing. Given the number of members only a very tiny minority ever bother recording on the forum so it seems this is a misconception.

If I am incorrect then I apologise in advance but it surprises me that members who I assume are keen birders are willing to go on the trip to Scotland and yet never seem to put local records on here  ( except for a couple of them ) as I am sure they must go out and about locally

I no longer feel that the forum is fit for purpose and will not be renewing my membership and being a senior citizen will use the small saving to keep the home fires burning this winter.
